Queen Bess Fall Planting

Courtesy of LDWF

Restore or Retreat has been working on an exciting project with LDWF, CPRA, BTNEP, Shell and Nicholls for a fall planting on Queen Bess Island and we need your help!

Our bird friends returned to their island in full force this spring, and we have been asked to plant additional nesting materials like black mangroves and matrimony vine to make their home great again for spring.  This is where you come in– we are in need of volunteers to travel out to the island with us to plant these materials.

Our tentative planting dates are Friday, November 13 and Saturday, November 14.  Lunch and a volunteer gift would be provided.  We are limited to the number of volunteers who can participate, and we are already considering steps to ensure social distancing and extra safety precautions.   The main launch site would be the LDWF Lab in Grand Isle.

(Note: the minimum age to volunteer is 14 years old; if you have a group that would like to volunteer younger than this, please reach out to us at simone.maloz@nicholls.edu or seth@btnep.org)

We appreciate your interest and consideration in participating in our Queen Bess Island Fall Planting project! We have reached our volunteer capacity. If you wish to be placed on a waiting list, please contact victoria.sagrera@nicholls.edu

Thank you!

Waivers to be completed- please feel free to print and bring with you, or forms will be provided on the day of the event.
