Field Report I: CPRA Draft FY23 Annual Plan

The Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA)’s Annual Plan provides an update on the state’s efforts to protect and restore its coast and describes the short-term and long-term results that citizens can expect to see as the state progresses toward a sustainable coast. Restore or Retreat was excited to welcome CPRA Executive Director, Bren Haase, as the first guest of ROR’s 2022 Field Report webinar series on Thursday, February 17 to discuss the Draft Fiscal Year 2023 Annual Plan and a deeper dive into projects slated for Louisiana’s bayou region.

Field Report III: Coastal Technical Assistance Center (CTAC)

As a relatively new asset to the Bayou Region and ultimately our coast, Restore or Retreat was excited to highlight the Coastal Technical Assistance Center (CTAC) with program coordinator, Laci Melancon, during ROR’s third Field Report of 2021 on Wednesday, July 28. Enjoy!

Field Report II: Port Fourchon, Where Energy Meets Environment

Restore or Retreat was very excited to welcome Greater Lafourche Port Commission/Port Fourchon Executive Director and ROR Vice-President, Chett Chiasson, as ROR’s Field Report guest! On Thursday, May 6, Chett discussed a theme of “energy meeting the environment” and how Port Fourchon has created successful environmental partnerships for decades. Field Report I: Terrebonne Basin Barrier Island and Beach Nourishment Project

Restore or Retreat’s first Field Report of 2021 gave a project overview and update on the Terrebonne Basin Barrier Island & Beach Nourishment (TE-193) project from April Newman, Louisiana’s Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority(CPRA) Project Manager.

Field Report II: Davis Pond Freshwater Diversion

Restore or Retreat’s 2nd Field Report of 2019 highlighted the Davis Pond Freshwater Diversion with an update from Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA)’s Coastal Resources Scientist and Monitoring Manager for freshwater diversions, Erin Plitsch.

Field Report I: Osprey

ROR’s first Field Report of 2019 highlighted a well-known bird species, Osprey! Louisiana’s aquatic ecosystems provide important wintering and breeding habitat for the Ospreys. They have increased dramatically as a breeding bird in Louisiana, especially in southeast Louisiana and along some of the larger rivers and inland reservoirs. The 2015 Louisiana Wildlife Action Plan lists the Osprey as a “Species of Greatest Conservation Need.” In this virtual lunch-and-learn, Natalie Waters of the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program (BTNEP) and Tim Allen of Apache Louisiana Minerals discussed the life history of Ospreys, as well as BTNEP/BTEF and Apache’s nest platform installation and monitoring efforts.

Field Report III: Bayou Lafourche

Restore or Retreat’s October 2018 Field Report presented by Ben Malbrough of the Bayou Lafourche Fresh Water District was an update on the improvements to Bayou Lafourche, including the design of a new pump station on the Mississippi River.
