Earth Day / Love The Boot Clean-Up — Caminada/Cheniere
Earth Day / Love The Boot Clean-Up in the Caminada/Cheniere Area
We intend to clean-up the ~2miles between the ‘Welcome to Grand Isle’ sign and the Grand Isle Bridge.
Restore or Retreat’s Executive Director, Joseph Orgeron invites you to join us for a public cleanup of the Cheniere Caminada on the approach to Grand Isle, Louisiana. This Earth Day/Love the Boot cleanup will help continue our recovery from Hurricane Ida.
WHEN: Saturday, April 22nd from 9 to 1;30 p.m. or earlier finish.
HISTORY: The Cheniere sustained significant damage from Hurricane Ida that hit our community in August of 2021. The recovery is ongoing. The goal is to clean the area ahead of the summer season which sees many visitors to the island.
Restore or Retreat along with your efforts will clean a distance of approximately 2 miles along LA. Hwy 1 heading into Grand Isle. This event will consist of two different groups working on cleanup in the area. Team One will be walking alongside the road doing the cleanup of the area abuting the canal. This one is less labor intensive and will work to beautify the area easily from the road. Team 2 will work to clean the marsh across the canal from the road. Distance for this group will be determined by pace of removal of debris. This group will be doing a more labor intensive cleanup of the debris left from Hurricane Ida. Please see notes below for more specific information for each group.
