Port Fourchon Terracing Vegetative Planting Project

Restore or Retreat and Ducks Unlimited have announced the upcoming planting of the Port Fourchon Terracing and Living Shoreline Project in southern Lafourche Parish. This project is completing its construction phase and is visible on the southern side of Highway-1 headed to Grand Isle.

You are invited to join us for a volunteer-driven, large-scale vegetative planting event, which has been made possible with support from Woodside Energy.  Our volunteers will be planting approximately 12,000 black mangroves, which will provide vegetative enhancement and assist in critical sediment retention for these newly constructed terraces situated on The Louisiana Land and Exploration Company LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of ConocoPhillips, and Edward Wisner Trust lands.

The first phase of the planting will take place December 5th-7th.

About the Port Fourchon Terracing and Living Shoreline Project:

Once completed, this restoration project will result in over 87,000 linear feet of earthen marsh terraces and over 4,000 linear feet of living shoreline, improving fish and wildlife habitat and protection of surrounding wetlands and critical infrastructure around Port Fourchon.

This planting project was made possible with a $100,000 grant from Woodside Energy and a partnership with Ducks Unlimited/ConocoPhillips Louisiana and collaboration with the Edward Wisner Trust.

This is a multi-day planting of the terraces and we look forward to having you join us for this event.  Please register early to get the best choice of available days.  You are welcome to join us for multiple days if you are inclined. You must register in order to attend.  No walkup registration will be accepted. This is to allow for adequate planning of boats and resources.  We ask that you understand this is necessary for event success.

Please register using the link below.

Once registered prior to the event you will receive a more detailed scope of work and what to expect on our planting.  For more specific information please contact RoR project coordinator Polly Glover via email at [email protected]

Thank you so much for donating your time to a great cause!

On behalf of Restore or Retreat, Woodside Energy, and Ducks Unlimited / ConocoPhillips we look forward to having you join us in the field.

If you require more information on how your company or group can bring volunteers to this project please reach out to Polly Glover (Restore or Retreat Project Coordinator) at [email protected] or Joseph Orgeron (Restore or Retreat Executive Director) at [email protected].
